This set of two maracas are handmade from Gourds in Peru.
As the size of gourds vary, each set of maracas will be unique in size and shape.
The pattern which has been burnt onto the gourds is stars and polka dot circles. The top of the gourd has been cut in a zigzag effect and clean crushed stones have been inserted to make the maraca sound when shaken. The top of the gourd has then been glued back carefully.
The set of maracas are attached by string. Story of fair trade producer group accompanies each pair of maracas.
Measurement of maracas: length is 17 cms to 25 cms approximately. Due to the uniqueness of each gourd used, every set is different.
Purchased from C.I.A.P. ( La Central Interregional de Artesanos del Peru ) , a non- profit organization which helps improve the social and economic situation of producers from many different regions of Peru. C.I.A.P. saw the need to provide a way for the producers to receive fair wages and safe working conditions without exploitation.
